The Truth About Love... and the Usual Lies
The Truth About Love…and the Usual Lies, is a musical journey through the ups and downs of love that features -- among many -- songs from Avenue Q, Kurt Weill's Street Scene, songs by William Bolcom, and classics from the American popular repertoire. “We wanted to tell a story using songs from all genres, bring a little bit of the formal recital repertoire onto a casual stage, then couple it with a belter tune from a contemporary musical.” The result is a musical journey about a young woman’s discovery of love in all its quirky variations, both through falling into it, and falling out of it. “We each have an ideal of what love will and should be. Along the way we learn the truths, the lies, the pain, the humor, and the profundity of the experience. That’s what we try to take the audience through, the re-experiencing of all of that.”

Gershwin and Beyond
Enjoy a trip through the decades with Michael and Jessica as they explore the most spectacular music of the 20th and 21st centuries. This riveting and emotional recital begins with sentimental tunes of greats such as Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern. Michael then tickles the ivories playing George Gershwin’s famous preludes. Next we journey though the songs of the legendary Leonard Bernstein to contemporary composers such as Lowell Liebermann and Libby Larsen. Jessica’s intense interpretation of Larsen’s Try Me Good King: Last Words of the Wives of Henry VIII, has been heralded as passionate and intense, leaving the audience still in their seats. After a captivating selection of contemporary classical music, these versatile musicians end with Maury Yeston’s December Songs, a woman’s journey through divorce and personal rebirth. “ We enjoy this recital so deeply! We feel that performing the hits of the American Songbook on the same program as the compositions of the newest American talents is invigorating and a real treat for the audience. An opportunity for us all to see where we have come from, where we are and a hint of what is to come”.
